Sanjay Gandhi Biological Park or Patna Zoo is a must-see attraction for the visitors who get very delightful experience of luxuriant flora & Fauna of the jungle.

Spreading over 153 acres of land area the park is classified as one of the 16 largest Zoos in the country.

Established first as a Botanical Garden in the year 1969, the park has been developed as a Biological Garden only since 1973.

Sanjay Gandhi Biological Park is home to more than 800 animals representing over 70 species including Tiger, Lion, Leopard, Rhino, Hippo, Crocodile, Himalayan Bear, Lion-tailed Macaque, Leopard Cat, Hog Deer, Zebra, Emu and White Peacock including some endangered ones.

An aquarium and snake house is another attraction of the park. The aquarium has about 35 species of fish. The snake house has 32 snakes representing 5 species.

The flora consists of more than 300 species of trees, herbs and shrubs in the Botanical part of the park.

Patna Zoo is among one of the most distinguished zoos in the world which is widely acclaimed for its successful breeding programme of endangered species/animals particularly the one-horned Rhinos.

The success story of rhino-breeding put the Patna zoo on global map for rhino breeding. Today, Patna zoo has the second largest rhino population among all the biological parks in the world, next only to San Diego zoo, California.

The annual number of its visitor makes up approximately 750000.
Zoo is a venue for both fun and learning and is quite popular among the children.

A toy train encircling all around the zoo is very popular especially among children.

Taking a boat ride in the beautiful lake in the park is also an excellent recreation and fun.

SGB Park is also a popular rendezvous with walkers, joggers and picnickers and remains the first choice for New Year revellers.

International convention center is going to be the Global Face of modern Patna.

International convention center Patna a large and magnificent, state-of-the-art convention center will be the most significant landmark of modern Patna.

The foundation stone of the centre was laid by Nitish Kumar, the chief minister of Bihar on February 8, 2014 and the work is still under progress.

The convention centre would be developed across 70,000 Sqm to the north of historical Gandhi Maidan adjacent to river Ganga, with an estimated cost of Rs 490 crore.

The main convention hall would have a seating capacity for 5,000 people.

Sri Krishna Science Center

Sri Krishna Science Center is a must see attraction in Patna where learning science is fun. Located near south western corner of the Gandhi Maidan. Sri Krishna Science Centre is very popular among all visitors especially children and youngsters.

Established in the year 1978, Shrikrishna Science Centre  was named after the first Chief Minister of Bihar Dr. Shrikrishna Singh.

A constituent unit of the National Council of Science Museums (NCSM), Sri Krishna Science Centre is the country’s first regional level science centre.

Sri Krishna Science Centre was established with a view to develop scientific attitude and temper and to create, inculcate and sustain a general awareness amongst the people.

Interactive self-learning experiences in an enjoyable manner.

Opening Hours

The Centre remains open for visitors from 10-30am to 6-00pm every day, except on ‘Holi’ and Diwali’.
Ticket counter closes at 5-30pm.

Festive mood has gripped the city of Patna as the 350th Prakash Utsav is being celebrated with great fervour and gaiety from 30th December, 2016 to 8th January, 2017.

The whole city is brightened up with magnificent arrangements. Devotees from round the world are reaching Patna to participate in the celebration of 350th  Prakash Utsav.350th birth anniversary of the 10th Sikh Guru, Shri Guru Gobind Singh Ji.

Devotees are happy to see magnificent arrangements and facilities and expressed their satisfaction.

Apart from Sikh devotees, locals are also very enthusiastic to participate in the grand celebration visiting Patna Sahib  and Gandhi Maidan Tent City.

Gandhi Maidan tent city has turned  into a “mini-Punjab”.It is a big moment for Patna and Patnaites.

Langars  (free community kitchen) have been organized at different places for thousands of devotees.Several dignitaries and NRIs also offer their sewa along with common people at Langars.

Devotional songs and kirtan is being performed throughout the day mesmerize the devotees at the tent city Gandhi Maidan.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Punjab chief minister Parkash Singh Badal and a large number of Sikh dignitaries from India and abroad will participate in the special prayers and ‘kirtan’ on January 5.

BUDDHA SMRITI PARK

Buddha Smriti Park is located in the heart of the city near the Patna railway junction. The Buddha Smriti Park is very magnificent and impressive landmark dedicated to Lord Buddha.

This state-of-the-art Buddhist religious structure includes a 200-foot-high central Stupa -’Patliputra Karuna’, Meditation Centre, Museum, and a distinctive Buddhist theme park – Park of Memories. The Park built by Bihar government to commemorate the 2550th anniversary of ‘mahanirvana’ (salvation) of Lord Buddha was inaugurated on 27th May 2010 by Tibetan spiritual leader the Dalai Lama on the occasion of Buddha Purnima.

GOLGHAR: ‘THE MONUMENTAL GRANARY’

Golghar (Round House) is located to the west of  famous Gandhi maidan in the city near river Ganga .This massive beehive shaped structure is in fact a huge granary built by Captain John Garstin in 1786.

After the catastrophic famine of 1770 in Bengal Province which killed approximately 15 million people in modern West Bengal, Bihar, parts of Jharkhand, Orissa and Bangla Desh.

Warren Hastings, the then Governor General of India ordered to build this massive round Granary to cater the need of British Army with a storage capacity of 14000 tones.Captain John Garstin of East India Company was the Architect of the GolGhar.

Looking like a huge Stupa-a type of Buddhist architecture, this massive concrete structure is 29 meter high on a platform of 125 meter and the walls are 3.6 meter thick at the base tapering towards the top without any pillar.

A pair of spiral- staircases, each having 145 steps meet at the top, from where one can have a spectacular bird’s eye view of the city and the river Ganga flowing nearby.

Golghar has also earned the name of “Garstin’s Folly” because of a design fault. The doors were designed to open inside, making it impossible to open, once the granary was full.

Primarily built as a granary, this massive structure is now one of the most significant landmarks of the city.
